Schmucker Hall, Lutheran Theological Seminary, on a foggy day

The Lutheran Theological Seminary was founded by Samuel Simon Schmucker, who wanted to see an American-trained clergy in Gettysburg. During the Civil War, it became the center of the Confederate line for two days. The cupola of the Old Dorm served as an observation tower first for Union and then for the Confederate officers.
